This Spring I started woodfiring a bit again, after an 18 year "break". Wood fired pottery bares the markings of its process boldly and with an energetic signature as old as ceramics itself.
This small vase is faceted in the bottom, but swirling organic at the top. When you look closely, the seashell leaves fossil holds the eye, making this connection for fire and the sea, plus the aging of trees in lava temperatures.
Two types of neutral orange: one in the flashing on bare clay, one in the texture of shino plus freckles of wood ash.
